Writing a Comparison and Contrast Essay

Writing a comparison essay is really easy once you figure out the layout structure of your paper. After you get that taken care of the only other problem is picking your topics. Depending on your assignment you will want to choose something that you can relate to. This can be hobbies, or anything you have some sort of experience of knowledge of. It can be really difficult writing about something you have never experienced firsthand.

After you choose your topics it’s time to sit down and brain storm for a few minutes. This is just where you will jot down all the differences and comparisons of the topics. When you are done you will have a rough idea of how you will structure your compare and contrast essay.

Now let’s start writing out our paper. Your first paragraph will just be introducing your topics to your readers. Remember do not compare or contrast your topics in this part, we will do that later.

After you have brought your reader’s up to speed on your topics it is time to start our second paragraph. This is where you will talk about and discuss a few facts about your first topic. Do not compare, or introduce your second topic in this part.

The third paragraph you will do the same as the last paragraph that is to discuss topic two and throw out some facts on the subject.

Now the fourth paragraph is where you will start comparing. Each comparison should be one paragraph. You can go on and on with paragraphs until all of your points have been made. So a comparison and contrast essay can be short or very long. This will all depend on how many comparisons will be made.
Hopefully this quick write up will help you on your quest to conquer your comparison essay!
